Cultivation in Pearl Oyster Ponds
1. Building Farming Racks with Mesh  
Application Method: Fix the mesh on supports (such as bamboo poles or metal frames) in the cultivation pond to form multi-layered horizontal or vertical farming spaces for hanging pearl oyster seedlings or adult oysters.  
Advantages:  
(1)Make full use of water space and increase the farming density per unit area.  
(2)The pores of the mesh can control water flow, facilitating water quality exchange and bait delivery, while preventing pearl oysters from escaping.  
Suitable Stages: Suitable for both the seedling cultivation and adult oyster farming stages.  
2. Isolation and Zoned Cultivation

Shallow Sea/Tidal Flat Suspension Farming

1. Raft Suspension Farming  

Application Method: Set up rafts (composed of buoys and ropes) in shallow sea areas. Make farming cages or mesh bags from the mesh and hang them below the rafts. Pearl oysters attach to the mesh via byssus threads for growth.  

Advantages:  

(1)Adapt to the tidal and current environment of shallow seas, ensuring that pearl oysters obtain abundant planktonic bait.  

(2)The hanging depth of the mesh can be flexibly adjusted to avoid the impact of bad weather (such as typhoons) on farming.  

Application Scenarios: Widely used in coastal pearl farms, such as major pearl-producing areas in the South China Sea and the Sea of Japan.  

2. Stake Suspension Farming in Tidal Flats  

Application Method: Insert wooden stakes or bamboo poles into the intertidal flats and fix the mesh on the stakes to form vertically hanging farming curtains. Pearl oysters attach to the mesh and are alternately exposed and submerged in water with the ebb and flow of the tide.  

Advantages:  

(1)Utilize idle space in tidal flats at a low cost.  

(2)Suitable for environments where the flats are exposed at low tide, facilitating manual management and harvesting.  

Intensive Industrial Farming 

1. Indoor Recirculating Aquaculture Ponds  

Application Method: In industrial farming workshops, use mesh to build multi-layered farming racks, combined with a recirculating water system, to achieve high-density farming of pearl oysters in a controllable environment.

2. Seedling Screening and Sorting in Nursery Ponds  

Application Method: During the seedling stage, use meshes with different pore sizes to screen pearl oyster seedlings and cultivate them in separate ponds according to their specifications to prevent large seedlings from squeezing small ones.  

Advantages:  

(1) Promote uniform growth of seedlings and improve the seedling survival rate.  

(2)Facilitate the statistics of seedling quantity and specifications, providing data support for subsequent farming.

Pearl panels/mesh hoisting method:
In shallow water areas (with a depth of 1 to 3 meters), set up floating rafts or piles, hang fish cages made of mesh sheets (with a hole diameter of 5 to 8 millimeters), and fix the pearl mussels on the mesh sheets.
Advantages: Utilizing the vast space of the lake, it avoids the impact of sediment pollution on the quality of pearls. The mesh can be cleaned regularly to prevent excessive algae adhesion.
